Certainement la plus belle déclaration... celle de la famille...

La Lune aussi est triste ce soir... elle se voile dans sa tristesse ...

J'ai eu la chance de rencontrer Neil Armstrong plusieurs fois...

La première, en 1989, pour les 20 ans d'Apollo 11...

Vraiment, c'est une vraie triste nouvelle ...

Je me souviendrai toujours cette nuit du 20 juillet. Je veillais devant la TV regardant ces images fantômatiques de deux hommes sur la Lune... oui, deux hommes sur la Lune.

Merci Mr Armstrong, merci d'avoir permis à l'humanité de réaliser certainement son plus vieux rêve...

Je me permets de remettre ce superbe portrait de Neil Armstrong, où on le voit sourire... car la photo officielle, et celle diffusée par une majorité de médias, est celle où il ne sourit pas !

C'est un choc pour moi...

J'avais entendu dire que son opération s'était bien passée. J'avais tendance à le croire immortel ce monsieur.

Je ne l'ai jamais rencontré et je suis né après Apollo 11, mais l'image d'un homme marchant sur la Lune m'a toujours fasciné... Je me suis tourné vers l'astronomie... et je regarde la Lune très souvent.

Je la regarderai maintenant d'un oeil différent ou d'un clin d'oeil différent.

The following is a statement from NASA Administrator Charles Bolden regarding the death of former test pilot and NASA astronaut Neil Armstrong. He was 82.
"On behalf of the entire NASA family, I would like to express my deepest condolences to Carol and the rest of the Armstrong family on the passing of Neil Armstrong. As long as there are history books, Neil Armstrong will be included in them, remembered for taking humankind's first small step on a world beyond our own.

"Besides being one of America's greatest explorers, Neil carried himself with a grace and humility that was an example to us all. When President Kennedy challenged the nation to send a human to the moon, Neil Armstrong accepted without reservation.

"As we enter this next era of space exploration, we do so standing on the shoulders of Neil Armstrong. We mourn the passing of a friend, fellow astronaut and true American hero."

I am deeply saddened by the passing of my good friend, and space exploration companion, Neil Armstrong today. As Neil, Mike Collins and I trained together for our historic Apollo 11 Mission, we understood the many technical challenges we faced, as well as the importance and profound implications of this historic journey. We will now always be connected as the crew of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon, yet for the many millions who witnessed that remarkable achievement for humankind, we were not alone.

Whenever I look at the moon I am reminded of that precious moment, over four decades ago, when Neil and I stood on the desolate, barren, yet beautiful, Sea of Tranquility, looking back at our brilliant blue planet Earth suspended in the darkness of space, I realized that even though we were farther away from earth than two humans had ever been, we were not alone. Virtually the entire world took that memorable journey with us. I know I am joined by many millions of others from around the world in mourning the passing of a true American hero and the best pilot I ever knew. My friend Neil took the small step but giant leap that changed the world and will forever be remembered as a historic moment in human history.

I had truly hoped that on July 20th, 2019, Neil, Mike and I would be standing together to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of our moon landing, as we also anticipated the continued expansion of humanity into space, that our small mission helped make possible. Regrettably, this is not to be. Neil will most certainly be there with us in spirit.

On behalf of the Aldrin family, we extend our deepest condolences to Carol and the entire Armstrong family. I will miss my friend Neil as I know our fellow citizens and people around world will miss this foremost aviation and space pioneer.

May he Rest in Peace, and may his vision for our human destiny in space be his legacy.

« C’est un jour triste, non seulement pour la famille de Neil Armstrong, mais aussi pour le monde entier.

En effet, les premiers pas de Neil Armstrong et de Buzz Aldin sur la Lune font partie maintenant de l’histoire de l’humanité, c’est à dire bien au delà des frontières de l’histoire spatiale ou de l’histoire américaine. Jusqu’au 21 juillet 1969, Neil Armstrong a été américain et l’alunissage est américain. Mais depuis ce jour Neil Armstrong appartient à l’humanité, comme Yuri Gagarin qui l’avait précédé dans l’espace car il a fait découvrir la planète Terre à l’humanité toute entière.

Depuis ce jour aussi, la compétition entre les deux grandes puissances spatiales pour le vol habité a fait place à la coopération et, aujourd’hui, américains et russes travaillent ensemble dans l’espace avec leur collègues japonais, canadiens et européens et demain, je l’espère, et j’y travaille, avec d’autres ambassadeurs de l’espace.

L’alunissage a été un exploit collectif du peuple américain et Neil Armstrong en restera le premier symbole. Mais Neil Armstrong a su dépasser le statut de héros, en restant un homme savant, discret, réservé, mais toujours prêt à transmettre son expérience aux jeunes générations. Il a ainsi inspiré des générations successives, partout dans le monde et c’est aussi pour cela que Neil Armstrong sera toujours présent, de génération en génération, pour de nombreux ingénieurs et scientifiques. Ma rencontre avec Neil Armstrong restera un moment magique de ma vie et je suivrai le vœu de la famille de Neil Armstrong en lui rendant hommage par un clin d’œil à la Lune où ses pas sont définitivement ancrés ».

But mention flying airplanes, and in particular flying the X-15, and he would light up, his eyes would twinkle, and you could barely get a word in edgewise — nor would you want to.
